8) 1989 – Driving Miss Daisy over Dead Poets Society
Driving Miss Daisy was an odd choice for Best Picture especially when you consider that director Bruce Beresford wasn’t even nominated for Best Director. It was a good movie but not especially outstanding and Dead Poets Society is a movie that still sees people quote ‘Carpe Diem’ as a result of it.
7) 1980 – Ordinary People over Raging Bull
Once again Martin Scorsese was left to feel the snub of the Academy as Ordinary People prevailed against the biopic of Jake La Motta. Ordinary People is a good movie but not a great one and time has been better to Raging Bull than it has to it.
